Poppies at Sunset

In 2022 I was commissioned to do a painting of a poppy field for the entryway of a respite house called "Poppytree House".

I was lucky enough to get this opportunity through a friend, but I had very little experience doing acrylic painting. I had delved into illustration, watercolour painting and digital art for many years but never acrylic!

I decided that I would do the commission and teach myself as go, since I've always managed to pick up fairly quickly when it comes to art.

I bought a 120cm double-wide canvas and used Matisse paints with brushes and palette knives.
I spent the next few months working on this piece, figuring out this new medium as I went. Many times, I went over the same areas making mistakes over and over again.

The end result was a warm, bright poppy field at sunset, with impasto poppies.
